Department of English

Classes in the Department of English are kept as small as possible, so that each student can gain a sound understanding of English and develop effective communication skills. The department aims to educate students who have an excellent grasp of English and the art of communication so that they will be effective in dealing with other cultures. Classes are divided into four groups. The English Communication group contains classes which emphasize spoken English. The English and American Literature group contains classes in which participants study English literature, American literature, and drama. The English Linguistic group's classes focus on the pronunciation, grammar, and history of the English language, so that students can gain an appreciation of the linguistic features of English. The English and Culture group, which is taugh in the evening, contains classes in English literature, culture, and translation.
