Department of Economics

The Department of Economics offers a diverse range of courses in both theoretical and applied economics. The curriculum develops students’ ability to analyze the current state of the economy and identify the socioeconomic issues facing Japan and the Tohoku region, thus enabling them to formulate appropriate policy given the socioeconomic environment. In the first 2 years, students are required to take subjects in which they develop a fundamental understanding of economic theory, policy and analytical techniques. In their final 2 years students are able to choose from a diverse range of theoretical, applied and policy related courses. Seminar classes are offered at every grade. The size of these seminars are limited so that each student can receive the individual guidance needed to further develop their understanding of economics and the analytical skills necessary to provide them with the ability to adapt to the ever changing economic environment.
