The Research Institute for Engineering and Technology at Tohoku Gakuin University consisting of four divisions “Nanomaterial Engineering Research Division”, “Environment and Bio Engineering Research Division”, “Disaster Prevention and Safety Engineering Research Division” and “Information and Communication Engineering Research Division” has been established. The latest research facilities support a wide range of research and education with collaboration between the Faculty/Graduate School of Engineering and society.

This apparatus is an arc furnace equipped with four arc electrodes and makes it possible to synthesize high-quality crystalline samples. Furthermore, the apparatus allows us to prepare single crystal by means of Czochralski method. Using the high-quality samples synthesized by the apparatus, we investigate various physical properties such as structural and magnetic, electronic, thermal properties for novel alloys and compounds.
Cells move successfully in various conditions, including embryos and lesions. This apparatus allows us to observe the cell movements temporally as well as spatially so that the mechanism of cell motility can be investigated. In addition to the biological and medical aspects, the mechanism will contribute to designing a tiny object.
The equipment measures small electrical potentials caused by neural activities of the brain from 64 passive-electrodes (maximum) or 30 active-electrodes (maximum) placed on the scalp. The electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is used in research of brain function and activity, and also utilize to develop novel EEG signal processing methods from an engineering point of view such as blink artifact rejection.
A thin film growth apparatus for forming a silicon thin film on a glass substrate. We introduce silicon gas phase material (monosilane) into the growth chamber, decompose in the plasma state, and grow into crystals at low temperature. It is also possible to grow a wide variety of thin films by changing the type of gas phase material to be sent into the growth chamber and introducing various kinds of gas phase raw materials at the same time.
This device makes it possible to three-dimensionally detect the fine internal structure of the specimen non-destructively. Moreover, due to the special internal structure, it is possible to perform CT imaging with load applied to the specimen. We have produced the results of three-dimensional detection of fine cracks in concrete so far.
ESR instruments provide the only means of selectively measuring free radicals non-destructively and in any sample phase (gas, liquid or solid). We are measuring hydroxyl radicals (a type of free radical) that can rapidly decompose underwater polluted organic matter with strong oxidation power using this equipment.
