The Economic Data Science program integrates and studies two fields: economics and data science, addressing regional challenges. Understanding the complexity and volatility of the economy and utilizing data science methodologies for effective decision-making in business strategies and economic policies has become essential. Digital transformation, such as the spread of the internet, has increased the amount of economic data available. Simultaneously, advances in data science have made data collection, processing, and analysis easier. Given these circumstances, economic data science is expected to become increasingly important and utilized in many fields. In business, acquiring knowledge and skills in economic data science is expected to enable the proposal of optimal strategies based on a grasp of market trends and customer needs. We believe that utilizing economic data science will also lead to corporate growth and improved profitability. In local government, using evidence-based policymaking (EBPM) in economic policy allows for quantitative evaluation of policy effects and impacts, enabling the implementation of more effective and efficient policies. EBPM plays a crucial role in the appropriate evaluation and improvement of economic policies. The development of economic data science will enable more accurate and effective economic analysis, becoming indispensable for revitalizing regional economies.
