Economic Data Science Major - Overview

Students in this program will use their knowledge and skills, which integrate economics with mathematics, data science, and AI, to address and research challenges facing regional economies. The core concept is to cultivate economic data science professionals who can contribute to the revitalization of regional economies.
Currently, the digital transformation of society (hereinafter referred to as DX) is being promoted with the government's digital innovation strategy, Society 5.0, in mind. Just like society and the economy, economics is also undergoing DX.
In this program, faculty members from Graduate School of Economics and Graduate School of Human Informatics collaborate with companies and local governments in the Tohoku region to guide students. Students will gain a deep understanding of both economics and data science, and by addressing regional issues, they will be able to research methods of "evidence-based policy making" (EBPM).
In recent years, the work of local governments and companies has changed in line with the advancement of the internet and changes in production technology, and reskilling and recurrent education have become necessary to adapt to these changes. This program aims to contribute to solving the problems facing the Tohoku region and revitalizing the region by training and continuously producing individuals who can practice evidence-based policy making (EBPM), which is required by society.
