Second year of Master's program in Economic Data Science

After graduating from the former Faculty of Liberal Arts at this university, I worked as a systems engineer. Amidst the significant changes in the working environment brought about by shifts in the Japanese economy, I began to think about how to adapt to these changes and create a more comfortable working environment. Therefore, I decided to pursue Graduate Schools studies to research "solutions to the shortage of IT and data science personnel in the Tohoku region."
There are three main reasons why I'm glad I went to Graduate Schools. First, my learning has broadened, and my perspective has expanded significantly. Graduate Schools has students from a wide range of ages and professions, from their 20s to their 50s, allowing me to be exposed to different generations' opinions and values. Second, thanks to the long-term enrollment system, I've been able to balance work and studies while diligently engaging in research, leading to a fulfilling student life. Third, this graduate school has a large number of expert faculty members in economics and data science, and provides thorough support to each student, allowing me to deepen my learning while confirming my own knowledge. As a result, my interest in economic events has increased, and I've developed the habit of enjoying thinking about how to analyze data and propose solutions, which has been extremely useful in my work.
Having graduated from this university once and then re-enrolled in Graduate Schools, my awareness and attitude towards learning have changed significantly. Learning a new field is by no means easy, but I realize that the experience will become a valuable asset and will never be wasted. In the future, I would like to apply the knowledge and skills I acquired in the Economic Data Science program to my work and strive to improve myself while enjoying the process.

他大学卒業後、地方金融機関に勤務しています。顧客ニーズの複雑化や金融商品の多様化が進む一方で、業務の効率化や高度化が強く求められていることを日々実感してきました。こうした変化に対応し、顧客の期待に応えるためには、大学時代には十分に学ぶ機会のなかった経済学とデータサイエンスの知識・技術が不可欠であると考え、経済データサイエンス専攻への進学を決意しました。
大学院での学びにおいて、特に魅力を感じている点は３つあります。１つ目は、多様なバックグラウンドを持つ院生との交流を通じて、多角的な視点を得られることです。さまざまな職種や経歴を持つ方々との議論は、金融機関という組織の枠を超えた新たな価値観や考え方に触れる貴重な機会となっており、柔軟な思考力の醸成につながっています。
２つ目は、専門教員による充実した指導体制です。経済学とデータサイエンス、それぞれの専門教員から指導を受けることで、経済理論だけでなく、プログラミングやデータ分析といった実践的なスキルも体系的に学ぶことができています。学んだ知識が実務に直結する形で活用できるようになり、自身の成長を実感しています。
３つ目は職場の、実務と学業が密接に結び付いた理想的な学習環境です。職場の理解と支援を得ながら、日中の業務で直面した課題を研究テーマとして掘り下げ、夜間や休日の学習・研究を通じて解決策を検討するという好循環が生まれています。実務経験と学術的知見を相互に活かせる点は、本専攻の大きな魅力だと感じています。
社会人として働いた後に再び学びの場に身を置いたことで、知識を習得する喜びと、その知識を現場へ還元する意義をこれまで以上に強く認識するようになりました。新たな分野への挑戦は決して容易ではありませんが、本専攻で培ったデータドリブンなビジネス課題解決力によって、地方金融機関の新たな可能性を切り拓き、地域社会の発展に貢献していきたいと考えています。
