Study Areas

The Department of Regional Community Studies values include deep understanding of the local community that is constituted by various elements, learning at sites through fieldwork, and being able to ascertain the current situation and challenges from residents’ perspectives. For that reason, students strive to understand the local community, consisting of various elements, from three perspectives: Society and Industry, Health and Welfare, and People and Nature.

Society and Industry

Devoting specific attention to the history of towns and farming villages on the coast, the revitalization of shopping districts and local industries, and the challenges in people’s social life, students learn about the relations among regional characteristics and local residents.

Health and Welfare

Students learn how to make residents healthy, how life-long learning from childhood through older adulthood should take place, and how health and welfare that support the local community should be arranged, including challenges to local welfare and town development that is friendly for all.

People and Nature

Students study relations between nature and people. Study includes the history of natural environments of the region and the Earth, environmental conservation and protection, preparations for natural disasters, and the fostering citizenship to realize a sustainable society.
