Study Areas

To develop human resources with a high level of expertise, able to analyze vast amounts of data generated daily in modern society, to create new values, and to give those values back to society, the department of data science presents three study areas: information science, mathematical science and social science. The department provides the latest education and research systems by assigning teaching staff with specialty in those fields.

In the information science area, students study and research the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, computers, networks, virtual reality (VR), web systems, applications, and multimedia. In the mathematical science area, students study the following: algebra and geometry, which are applicable to information encryption; probability theory, statistics, and analysis, which construct mathematical models of various phenomena; and life science and astronomy from the perspective of information. In the social science area students study the following: social statistics that apply statistics to social science; social network analysis, which grasps society from a mathematical perspective; analyses of media, information and communications technology, and human society; and welfare and disaster prevention.
