University-wide agreement on curriculum development and implementation

This university has agreed on the following matters regarding curriculum development and implementation, and will promote systematic education.

1. A sequential and systematic curriculum will be organized and implemented under a university-wide collaborative system.

Each faculty and liberal arts education center will organize a sequential and systematic curriculum to achieve the learning outcomes set forth in the degree awarding policy. In particular, they will systematically implement appropriate first-year education with carefully designed teaching content and methods. Furthermore, the organization and implementation of curriculum other than that related to specialized education will be carried out through a university-wide cooperative system that transcends faculties and liberal arts education centers, and necessary considerations and adjustments will be made.

2. Clarify the positioning of each subject.

Each faculty, the General Education Center, and the course instructors determine the learning objectives and content of their courses, linking them to the educational outcomes defined in the degree awarding policy.

3. Promote initiatives to make the credit system more effective.

The university, each faculty, and the liberal arts education center shall implement institutional measures such as ensuring sufficient class time, implementing a semester system and a cap system, and providing appropriate course registration and learning guidance, in order to make the credit system more effective and to enable students to achieve the learning outcomes set forth in the degree awarding policy at a higher level. In addition, instructors of courses shall strive to improve educational content and methods, such as providing specific guidance for learning outside of class, in order to make the credit system more effective.

4. Improve the syllabus.

Each faculty, the General Education Center, and the course instructors will clearly communicate to students, through the syllabus, the learning objectives, content, relationship to the degree awarding policy and undergraduate learning objectives, methods and criteria for grading, and the content of pre- and post-course learning.

5. Strive to improve educational methods.

The university, each faculty, and the liberal arts education center will strive to improve teaching methods in order to stimulate students' motivation to learn and guide them toward proactive learning. In particular, they will actively incorporate small-group, interactive classes and problem-solving classes, and develop learning support systems outside of the classroom. Furthermore, they will define classes that make advanced use of diverse media as media classes and strive to obtain educational effects that take advantage of their characteristics.

6. Promote efforts toward rigorous performance evaluation.

The university, each faculty, and the liberal arts education center will check whether instructors are conducting rigorous grading based on clearly defined learning objectives and grading criteria, and will also work to create a common understanding among faculty members regarding these learning objectives and grading criteria. Furthermore, they will create a system for systematically evaluating learning outcomes by introducing objective evaluation systems such as GPA.

7. Conduct inspections and evaluations continuously and systematically.

The university, each faculty, and the liberal arts education center shall continuously and systematically inspect and evaluate the implementation and operation of the curriculum and each course from the perspective of achieving the learning outcomes stipulated in the degree awarding policy, and take necessary corrective measures. In particular, courses that are required by all faculties shall be subject to rigorous inspection and evaluation.
