At our university, we have established six graduate schools (12 majors) that cater to all faculties, in order to further advance the academic research activities initiated within each faculty.

The Graduate Schools offers both master's and doctoral programs. The doctoral program is divided into a two-year initial program (first stage) and a three-year later stage (second stage). The first stage is treated as a master's program.

Master's Program

Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools will award the degree of "Master's" to those who, in the first stage of the doctoral program, acquire the required number of credits in accordance with the prescribed study method, receive the necessary research guidance, and are deemed to have achieved the following learning outcomes through the examination of their master's thesis or research paper and the final examination.

1. Possessing a multifaceted perspective and foundational knowledge regarding various issues in one's field of specialization.
2. Possessing specialized knowledge and skills in their field of specialization, and being able to analyze various issues in their field of specialization theoretically and empirically.

Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools, in order to achieve the learning outcomes stipulated in its degree awarding policy, organizes and implements a systematic and sequential curriculum in accordance with the following policies for the master's program.

1. Courses are offered whose primary objective is to achieve learning outcomes 1 and 2.
2. We will offer courses whose primary objective is to achieve learning outcome 3, and provide necessary research guidance.
3. With the primary objective of achieving learning outcome 4, research guidance will be provided through oral presentations, thesis writing, or research paper writing, thereby cultivating the abilities necessary to become a researcher.

master's program

Admission Requirements

class

The academic year is divided into two terms: the first semester (first term) and the second semester (second term), with each term consisting of 15 weeks of classes.

Classes are held in seven time slots (periods) each day, and taking into consideration the special provisions for educational methods under Article 14 of Graduate Schools Establishment Standards, we also offer classes in the evenings and on Saturdays to accommodate students who have jobs.

In addition, taking into consideration the students' schedules, we may also conduct hybrid classes that combine in-person and remote learning.

Long-term study program

① What is the long-term study system?

Our Graduate Schools offers a system that allows individuals with jobs or those whose research time is constrained by childcare or elder care responsibilities to systematically complete their studies by setting an extended study period in one-year increments, in consultation with their academic advisor, within the standard period of enrollment (4 years for the Master's program and 6 years for the Doctoral program), depending on their circumstances at the time of enrollment. Furthermore, the extended study period can be changed once.

② When will you apply?

Please fill out and submit your application form at least one month before the start of classes in the new academic year. You will be notified of your eligibility for extended study as soon as it is decided.

③ What will happen to tuition fees?

学納金は標準修業年限（博士課程前期課程・修士課程2年、博士課程後期課程3年）分に相当する学生納付金を、長期履修期間に応じて分割納付することとなります。長期履修を希望する方は、学務部大学院課（022-354-8202）にお問い合わせください。
