Acceptance of commissioned research, collaborative research, and educational research grants.

1. Commissioned research/joint research

Our university accepts external funding for commissioned and collaborative research through partnerships with industry, academia, and government, aiming to further revitalize education and research. Those wishing to undertake commissioned or collaborative research should apply through the university's principal investigator.

Contract research
This refers to research conducted by our university under contract from private companies, the national government, local governments, etc., with the expenses incurred being borne by the commissioning party.

This refers to research conducted jointly by our university with private companies, the national government, and local governments on common issues.

2. Educational and Research Grants

Our university accepts research grants and educational research donations to further revitalize education and research. If you wish to apply for educational research grants, please do so through the university's principal investigator.

Research grant
This refers to grants awarded by academic societies, foundations, etc., for research projects.
Educational and research donations
This refers to donations received from companies and other organizations for the purpose of supporting the university's educational and research activities.

3. Indirect expenses and general administrative expenses

When accepting commissioned research, collaborative research, or educational research grants, we request that you cover indirect costs and general administrative expenses.

While our university is striving to reduce costs through business reviews and operational improvements, we anticipate increased expenses due to facility improvements, enhancements to research equipment, and management costs associated with the advancement of research. Therefore, we expect to further revitalize education and research by enhancing commissioned research and collaborative research.

Despite the challenging business environment, we would greatly appreciate your understanding and support for our university's industry-academia-government collaboration projects, and we kindly request your contribution of indirect costs.

The indirect costs you have borne will be fully utilized to enhance the management, operation, and research environment of Tohoku Gakuin University, in accordance with the "Regulations for Handling Indirect Costs of Competitive Funds, etc. at Tohoku Gakuin University (Revised September 20, 2017, No. 109)."

Indirect expenses
This refers to the amount determined by taking into account expenses other than direct costs necessary in connection with the conduct of the research in question.
  • Contract research: 30% of direct costs as indirect costs
  • Collaborative research: 10% of direct costs as indirect costs
General and administrative expenses
This refers to the administrative fees and facility usage fees that the university collects from educational and research grants, etc., in connection with the use of direct research funds.
  • Educational and research grants, etc.: 5% of donations, etc., as general administrative expenses.
