Assessment Policy for Tohoku Gakuin University's "Three Educational Principles"

Tohoku Gakuin University (hereinafter referred to as "the University") will accurately grasp the achievement status of its three educational policies: the "Policy on Degree Conferral," the "Policy on Curriculum Development and Implementation," and the "Policy on Student Admissions," and will use this information to improve "quality assurance of education." In order to achieve this, the University will measure and evaluate educational outcomes from various perspectives (hereinafter referred to as "assessment") based on the following policy.

1. The assessment will be conducted on three policies: "Policy on degree awarding," "Policy on curriculum development and implementation," and "Policy on student admissions."
   1. Regarding the "degree awarding policy," the assessment will focus on the extent to which students are actually achieving the learning outcomes required by the policy. This assessment will be given particular emphasis, given that quality assurance of learning outcomes is especially strongly required in the university's "internal quality assurance."
   2. Regarding the "Curriculum Design and Implementation Policy," the assessment will primarily focus on whether appropriate educational content and methods are being provided to students in order to achieve the learning outcomes required by the "Policy."
   3. Regarding the "Admissions Policy," the assessment will focus on the extent to which new students possess the proactive learning attitude, the knowledge and skills necessary for learning at this university, and the basic thinking, judgment, and expression abilities required by the policy. In particular, emphasis will be placed on assessments specific to each entrance examination.
2. The assessment will be conducted at three levels: the university-wide level, the degree program level, and the course level. The university will use indicators related to the university as a whole, the faculty, department, or graduate school will use indicators related to the relevant degree program, and each faculty member will use indicators related to the course they teach.
3. In assessments, while utilizing existing data within the university, new indicators must be continuously developed in collaboration with relevant organizations, primarily the Institutional Research Committee, to address the complexity and multifaceted nature of the assessment subjects.
4. The assessment is conducted by the Inspection and Evaluation Committee as part of its inspection and evaluation activities. The Inspection and Evaluation Committee must compile the assessments annually, conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the implementation status of each policy based on these assessments, and report the results to the President through the Internal Quality Assurance Committee.
