Dean's Greeting
Faculty of Informatics ISHIDA, Hirotaka, Professor
Advanced technologies such as IoT, robotics, AI, and big data are being incorporated into all industries and aspects of daily life, ushering in an era of a "super smart society" that balances economic development with solving social challenges. To cultivate "talent that can thrive in fields that process information and utilize data" in this era, Department of Data Science within Faculty of Informatics will be launched in April 2023. Data science is the study of creating new value by analyzing the vast amount of data generated daily in the society in which we live. Faculty members from various fields that form the foundation of data science—mathematical sciences that handle data mathematically, information sciences that process data using programming and artificial intelligence, and social sciences that discover social challenges and return new value created from data back to society—have come together to prepare a curriculum that will enable you to forge your own future. Why not take advantage of the interdisciplinary learning offered in this faculty and embrace the era of the "super smart society"?
