Recruitment stopped in April 2023

For all students enrolled in faculties and departments that will cease accepting new students, we will ensure that they maintain their affiliation with their chosen department and the educational environment there until graduation. We, the faculty and staff, will also fulfill our responsibility to provide support for their student life, career paths, and job placement.

Education in this department

Exploring better communication while learning about linguistic and cultural diversity.

Based on intensive study of English plus one foreign language (German, French, Chinese, or Korean), students will broadly and intensively study specialized fields related to language and culture (see below). The goal is to learn about the diversity of languages and cultures and to find the possibility of better communication (dialogue) by overcoming these differences. The communication skills cultivated here will serve as a foundation for success in all fields of society, including education, finance, tourism/aviation, and media.

Specialized fields

The structure of language

There are many mysteries hidden in the words we use casually. Notice them, observe them, and think about why.

Expression and Culture

By analyzing and studying examples of outstanding expression in film, theater, photography, etc., and by actually creating them themselves, students will explore the breadth and possibilities of various media expressions.

Language acquisition and education

Why is it so difficult to learn a foreign language when you can speak Japanese without even realizing it? You will experience the joy and difficulty of learning and teaching a language and deepen your understanding.

Languages and cultures of various regions around the world

Students aim to acquire English, German, French, Chinese, and Korean languages, while also gaining an understanding of the Anglo-American, European, and East Asian cultures in which these languages are used.

Language and Communication

Other people are different from us. But how is it that we can understand the minds of others? We will explore this question by analyzing the nature of communication.

Cultural Structure

By taking up a wide range of topics, from art and philosophy to family, food, clothing, shelter, love, and fortune-telling, students will deepen their understanding of diverse cultures and deepen their exploration of how culture works.
