What kinds of technologies will support future societies?
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, IoT, and data science is dramatically changing society in many areas, including energy, mobility, information and communication, and healthcare. We are now in an era known as the "Fourth Industrial Revolution," and engineering has become a central discipline for solving societal challenges and creating new value.
The Faculty of Engineering at Tohoku Gakuin University emphasizes education that combines specialized knowledge grounded in fundamental science with practical manufacturing skills. The goal is for students to develop the ability to identify problems, devise solutions using technology, and actually bring those solutions to life. Learning is provided not only through lectures but also through experiments and research activities, connecting knowledge with practical application.
Furthermore, technology only has value when it benefits people's lives within society. The Christian spirit and liberal arts education that our university has cherished cultivate a perspective on using technology for the benefit of people and society. Nurturing engineers who possess not only expertise but also a strong sense of ethics and social responsibility is also a distinctive feature of our Faculty Faculty of Engineering.
Faculty of Engineering has relocated to Itsutsubashi Campus, consolidating Tohoku Gakuin University's educational and research bases within walking distance of Sendai Station. This urban campus provides a new educational and research environment, fostering more active interaction among students and collaboration with the local community.
The founder and first president of Tohoku Gakuin, Masayoshi Oshikawa, championed the philosophy of "making Tohoku the Scotland of Japan." This ambition to cultivate individuals who can transform society from the local level, much like Scotland did during the Industrial Revolution, continues to be a driving force in engineering education today.
It is you, the students who will be creating the society of the future.
At Tohoku Gakuin University's Faculty of Engineering, let's acquire the skills to contribute to society through technology and forge a new future together.
