This Faculty of Engineering of Engineering's fundamental educational policy is to teach you what constitutes "true science and technology" that will be needed in the 21st century, the century in which you will spend your life.
At Tohoku Gakuin University's Faculty of Engineering, we aim to provide students with more than just technical knowledge. We strive to instill in them the "scientific thinking skills" necessary to create new technologies and industries, and the "true human wisdom" needed in relation to human society. Common subjects Faculty of Engineering
The purpose of studying at the Faculty of Engineering at this university is to understand and be able to think critically about the fundamental elements of technologies directly related to industry, such as "industrial production technology, energy supply technology, information technology, communication technology, new material creation technology, construction technology, and social infrastructure creation technology," as well as "engineering technologies that can contribute to the advancement of human welfare and the preservation of local and global environments," such as biotechnology, welfare engineering, and environmental conservation technology. Furthermore, the goal is to be able to integrate this knowledge and understand what "truly advanced levels of science and technology" truly mean.
To address this, we offer common subjects such as "Basic Mathematics Exercises" and "Basic Physics Exercises" as "Common Engineering Subjects." These are designed to help students who have a solid foundation in science education up to high school to study more advanced engineering, and also to help students who aspire to study engineering at Tohoku Gakuin University, even if they haven't had sufficient opportunities to study these subjects before, to build a solid foundation for their studies. This is what we call "Tohoku Gakuin Science Fundamentals."
Mathematics is the study of constructing logic and understanding phenomena through logic, making it the best means of training to acquire the ability to think logically and scientifically during your university years. Similarly, physics, chemistry, and biology provide the fundamental knowledge (science fundamentals) necessary to discover for yourself what engineering is and to create new engineering. All students entering the Faculty of Engineering at this university will acquire these common engineering fundamentals in substance, and will acquire true human wisdom as a science.

The most distinctive feature of this Faculty of Engineering is that, in order to lay the foundation for natural science education and engineering education, face-to-face, consultation-based education is provided from the very beginning of the first year, with professors and small groups of students participating. A "Center for Fundamental Engineering Education" has been established as a student support center for this purpose.
This center, centered around a student lounge, provides a learning environment where students can gather and study while chatting at any time. It is also run by dedicated staff providing academic counseling and support. A system is in place where students can naturally acquire the "Tohoku Gakuin Science Fundamentals."
Furthermore, each faculty member is assigned as a tutor for approximately 7-8 specific students. These tutors also serve as homeroom teachers for the small-group education of first-year students, acting as personal tutors for each student. They are excellent advisors and guides for new students. Then, for the graduation research in the fourth year, the faculty member in charge of the assigned research lab will again provide research guidance to a small group of 7-8 students. By the time you are nearing graduation and completing your graduation thesis, you will have formed strong bonds, like family. You will also have developed a sense of responsibility as a fully-fledged engineer who can contribute to society. Cultivating such character is the primary objective of small-group education in this Faculty of Engineering.
Advanced science and technology education subjects
To become a leader capable of driving the creation of 21st-century industries, and particularly to contribute to the development of the industrial society in the Tohoku region and the creation of a prosperous area, it is necessary to cultivate knowledge of "cutting-edge science and technology" and the ability to think creatively to generate it oneself. In this Faculty of Faculty of Engineering, all four departments—" Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems Systems Engineering," "Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering," "Department of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering," and "Department of Department of Information Technology"—offer courses in cutting-edge science and technology.
Some examples of these include "Robot Development Engineering" and "Human-Machine Interface" offered in Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems, "Power Electronics," "Digital Electronic Circuits," and "Nanotechnology Engineering" offered in Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Electronic Engineering, "Concrete Maintenance Engineering" and "Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering" offered in the Department of Environmental and Civil Engineering, and "Data Science" and "Internet Engineering" offered in the Department of Department of Information Technology.
These advanced science and technology courses are offered to help students in this Faculty of Engineering of Engineering acquire the skills to become science and technology leaders capable of creating new industrial technologies for the 21st century, and to cultivate the human capabilities necessary to create a prosperous society.

Engineering technology is constantly evolving. However, cutting-edge technologies are born from solid advancements in fundamental science. In that sense, the foundation of advanced technology education lies in fundamental engineering education. In addition to that, a major pillar of advanced technology education is engineering education through cutting-edge research.
This Faculty of Engineering of Engineering houses a High-Tech Research Center that conducts nanotechnology research to develop 21st-century materials. Furthermore, cutting-edge research is actively carried out in the Biotechnology Research Common, which utilizes biological functions to solve diverse environmental problems. These activities are linked to numerous undergraduate and Graduate Schools research projects, providing students with concrete opportunities to learn what truly advanced levels of science and technology entail.
Furthermore, we strive to support students in their career choices after graduation, helping them decide what path they will take after having the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge science and technology. In Faculty of Engineering, faculty members and administrative staff work together systematically to provide career support to each and every student. This includes recommendations to companies from faculty members in charge of each graduation research lab, individual consultations with career counselors assigned to each department, career support advice from tutors, and course selection guides tailored to students' career goals from group leaders who serve as their academic advisors. We believe this multi-layered career support is a major characteristic of Faculty of Engineering at Tohoku Gakuin University that is not found in other universities.
