Department of English offers a systematically structured curriculum of numerous specialized English courses designed to thoroughly develop students' English proficiency over four years. Furthermore, students can gain a deep understanding of language and humanity through specialized research related to English (English and American Literature and Linguistics). The goal of this process is to cultivate both intellect and character.

Specialized fields

English and American literature

We will study a wide range of British and American literature, regardless of era or genre (novels, plays, poetry). We will use literature to examine the state of humanity, society, and culture.

English linguistics

We clarify the general characteristics of language through the study of English phonetics, grammar, semantics, and history. This is an academic field that scientifically views language as one of the cognitive systems of the human mind, and aims to understand humans through "language" and "the brain."

Curriculum to improve English proficiency

In the first category of specialized education subjects, the curriculum is designed to enable students to understand and communicate content in their specialized fields in English. For example, from "English Phonetics," which teaches the mechanics of English pronunciation, to "Integrated English," which deepens discussions based on specialized literature, and to "Learning English as a Second Language," which teaches effective English learning methods, students can improve their English proficiency step by step from the basics.
