You can study five fields: Japanese history, Asian history, European history, archaeology, and folklore. By studying each field in depth and across different regions, you will develop the ability to accurately understand modern society. You will practically learn how to identify and solve problems and communicate your viewpoints through presentations. You can also enhance your experience by experiencing historical sites firsthand through fieldwork such as field surveys.
Specialized fields
- Japanese History
- You can learn about Japanese history from ancient times to the present day from a variety of perspectives and themes, including a focus on the Tohoku region.
- Asian History
- We will study the history of China and Inner Asia, which is made up of the activities of a wide variety of people, from the perspectives of politics, culture, and ethnicity.
- European History
- We will analyze events in European history without preconceived notions, and will conduct a wide-ranging study of human behavior and thought.
- Archeology
- We explore ancient societies and structures through surveying and excavation of ruins and artifacts in Japan and Asia.
- Folklore
- You will learn about unconventional folklore, such as the surprising fact that folklore continues to change in response to changes in society, and how craftsmanship conveys changes in lifestyle.
