Philosophy and Goals

Philosophy/purpose

Students will acquire broad historical knowledge and a historical way of thinking, and will develop a global and historical understanding of contemporary society, as well as the practical ability to consider local issues from a broad perspective.

Educational goals

1. In addition to providing students with a broad knowledge of history, the program fosters the ability to think about things historically.
2. Encourage understanding of the historical background of modern society and develop an international perspective.
3. Students will learn about the historical origins of their local community and understand the importance of local culture.
4. Through exercises and practical training classes, students will develop independent problem-solving skills.
5. We aim to develop problem-solving skills in an information society and equip students with abilities that can be used throughout their lives in the real world.

1. Possess flexible thinking that allows them to absorb a wide range of knowledge and sufficient basic academic ability.

Undergraduate learning objectives (from the "Degree Awarding Policy")

In Department of History, students can demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

1. This course will provide an overview of fundamental knowledge in Japanese history, Asian history, European history, archaeology, and folklore, as well as the specific ways of thinking inherent in each field of study.
2. Students will be able to read and understand highly specialized academic papers in history, archaeology, and folklore, as well as proactively collect historical materials and documents, and then use flexible thinking, logical reasoning, and persuasive expression to create academic writing based on that knowledge.
3. Based on knowledge and thinking methods from history, archaeology, and folklore, students can identify issues and present statements, discussions, and solutions to various problems facing modern society, drawing on historical and documentary evidence.
4. By understanding the historical development of modern society and adopting a broad, international perspective, students can comprehend contemporary local communities and the issues surrounding them, consider what they should do, and contribute to society.
5. Through experiences such as internships and historical research, students will proactively engage in collaborative work while utilizing their own strengths, developing a sincere attitude and the ability to persevere with diligent effort, as well as being able to achieve results as a team in response to common challenges.
