Research topic
I am interested in the archaeology of the Northeast Asian region, from the northern part of the Japanese archipelago to the Russian Far East, Northeast China, and Mongolia, from around the turn of the millennium to the 12th century.
Research Topics
A castle on the northeastern border of ancient Mongolia
Recently, I've been working on the excavation of the Sharz-Oor 1 site, located on the northeastern border of the Uyghur Khaganate, which existed in ancient Mongolia. I suspect it was a local government office related to the Shiwei, who were located in the northeast of the country. This fortress was constructed with advanced Tang Dynasty technology and a high level of planning. It is thought that a high-standard fortress was necessary to demonstrate authority over different groups, given its location in a border region. I also think it may have served a similar role to Tagajo Castle, and I hope to conduct comparative studies that transcend regional boundaries.
