Research topic
My specialization is in Japanese medieval and early modern history. My main research topics are the political history, regional history, and castle history of the Sengoku period and early Edo period, particularly in the eastern provinces (Kanto and Oshu).
Research Topics
From the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Period: Reflecting on Local History
The basic structure of the region where we live today can be said to have been formed during the medieval and early modern periods. In recent years, regional history research has flourished in order to clarify the process and characteristics of this formation.
Studying local history requires an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach, encompassing research in various fields such as documentary history, archaeology, castle studies, historical geography, and even physical geography. It's not easy, but the process of combining diverse research methods to uncover the history of the region before us is incredibly fascinating.
I believe that the unique character and charm of a region stem from its history and culture. I intend to continue conducting regional history research with my students, not only for academic purposes, but also to gain a deeper understanding of the region and to consider and communicate, from a historical perspective, how to shape its future.
