For all students enrolled in faculties and departments that will cease accepting new students, we will ensure that they maintain their affiliation with their chosen department and the educational environment there until graduation. We, the faculty and staff, will also fulfill our responsibility to provide support for their student life, career paths, and job placement.

Department Head's Greeting

It's no exaggeration to say that society couldn't function without computers these days. Computers are used in many convenient machines and everyday objects without us even realizing it. For example, they're used not only in mobile phones and bank ATMs, but also in controlling train operations. There have even been instances where computer malfunctions have disrupted train services, causing significant disruption to society.

In Department of Information Science, students learn the fundamentals of computer science. They also learn the necessary mathematics, including a review of high school level concepts, starting from the basics. In the first and second years, students learn the fundamentals of computers and mathematics. From the third year onward, four flexible specialized courses are introduced according to individual interests, and small-group specialized education begins in a course called "Information Science Seminar." The four courses are: Computer Networks, Computer Science, Human Informatics, and Mathematical Science.

The "Computer Network Course" provides students with the knowledge necessary for computer networks, including system construction, management, operation, and security.

The "Computer Science Course" focuses on the main theme of what can be done with computers, and students learn programming and other related skills, developing diverse research projects such as computer control of robots and building image databases.

The Human Informatics course focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of information processing in living organisms and their applications to computers. Research will be conducted on topics such as the ultrasonic object recognition mechanisms of bats and the information science of proteins and DNA genes.

The "Mathematical Sciences Course" covers the mathematics and mathematical sciences that underpin information science. Students will also learn to visualize mathematical concepts using computer graphics. This course is ideal for those who want to deeply study mathematics and mathematical sciences used in computers, or for those aspiring to become mathematics teachers.

What can computers do? What do you want to do with them? We hope that the flexible thinking and ideas of prospective students will lead to the development of even more convenient ways to use computers.
