Regarding educational goals

The following are the specific goals we have set forth to realize our philosophy.

1. Cultivating cultured individuals with broad general knowledge.

While the acquisition of information processing technology is the primary educational goal of Department of Information Science, in the real world, what is truly required is the ability to communicate with others and to express one's own opinions in one's own words. In communicating with others who have different interests, hobbies, and goals, communication skills that consider the other person's perspective and way of thinking are essential, and for that, one must acquire a broad general education.

2. Fostering a strong intellectual curiosity

Learning is a lifelong process, and university studies alone represent only a part of lifelong learning. To maintain a desire to learn after graduation, intellectual curiosity is essential, leading to approaches to new fields and issues that transcend existing disciplines. This is a crucial skill for acquiring thinking methods that are not confined to existing fields, and we aim to cultivate this skill on a daily basis during student life.

3. Acquire information technology skills by firmly grasping the fundamentals.

Information technology, the main subject of our education, is advancing at a rapid pace, and certain technologies inevitably become obsolete. However, the fundamental ways of thinking and the technologies themselves are universal, and our goal is to ensure students acquire a solid foundation in information technology. Furthermore, building upon that foundation, we aim to help students acquire advanced technologies as well.

4. Cultivating the ability to think proactively about the relationship between technology and society.

As an individual engineer, one must constantly consider the social significance of the technology they provide, how it contributes to human life, and the inherent risks of that technology. To achieve this, it is essential to cultivate the ability to think independently, while firmly grasping the principles outlined in points 1 and 2.

5. Cultivating problem-solving skills

Our aim is to cultivate independent individuals with common sense, rather than those who simply blend into the organizational hierarchy. To achieve this, they need the ability to constantly observe and analyze their surroundings, and to identify, define, and solve truly necessary problems. Building upon the skills they acquire, we will help them develop the ability to identify problems that are truly important to society.

The ideal student for this department

• Applicants should possess sufficient fundamental academic abilities and comprehension skills, as well as a strong interest in one of the following subjects: information systems, mathematical sciences, or natural sciences.
• They understand the necessity and role of information technology in general society and have a broad interest in related academic fields.
• I can express my thoughts in a logical and structured way, using my own words.
• Applicants should understand the curriculum of this department and possess a strong sense of purpose and motivation to study professionally.
