Department of Regional Community Studies Professor
SUGAWARA, Sanae Professor
To create a better community, it is essential that the people who live there maintain good relationships with nature and with each other, and that they live healthy lives throughout their lives. Within a community, elements such as nature, industry, education, and welfare are closely interconnected. In Department of Regional Community Studies, students learn about these diverse elements that constitute a community, developing the ability to approach community issues from multiple perspectives and cultivating a fundamental attitude of thinking from the perspective of local residents in the field. Initially, students learn through fieldwork with their peers, and by graduation, they will be able to independently visit the field multiple times, collect and analyze data, and conduct in-depth analysis. The field is a continuous stream of new discoveries. Walking, seeing, listening, and envisioning the future of the community—this is the kind of learning experience this department offers.
