Tohoku Gakuin University, founded in 1886, is the largest comprehensive university in the Tohoku region, boasting a long history and tradition. Its graduates are active in various fields not only in the Tohoku region but throughout Japan.

Tohoku Gakuin University has a long history of training personnel involved in school education. In 1918, its predecessor, the Tohoku Gakuin Professional School, established a teacher training course and began training English teachers. In 2018, Department of Education was established within the Faculty Faculty of Letters to commemorate the 100th anniversary of teacher training. While inheriting the educational traditions cultivated over its long history, Tohoku Gakuin University is committed to developing personnel who can meet the needs of modern society.

At the end of March 2026, our university's Department of Education sent its fifth graduating class to public education settings and various companies. We have nurtured our students to the point where they can confidently stand in the classroom and teach as teachers from April after graduation, and we have received high praise from many quarters for our human resource development efforts. In the teaching practice that students undertake in their fourth year, we have received high praise from many schools where students conduct their practice, with comments such as, "They can write lesson plans properly on their own and conduct lessons that draw out children's learning."

These achievements are due to the small class sizes of approximately 50 to 70 students per year, which allows for more frequent and personalized instruction. Furthermore, the small class sizes foster excellent interaction among students, creating an atmosphere of mutual encouragement and healthy competition as they strive towards passing the teacher certification exam. Many students genuinely aspire to become teachers, and as evidence of this, the percentage of students who take the teacher certification exam is remarkably high, exceeding 70%.
