Accreditation Program for Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Education

This educational program is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the "Accreditation System for Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Education Programs (Applied Basic Level)."

In light of the arrival of the Society 5.0 era, Tohoku Gakuin University has established the Tohoku Gakuin University Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Literacy Program (formerly the Tohoku Gakuin University Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Education Program) as a university-wide program to cultivate human resources who will lead the transformation (DX: Digital Transformation) of society using next-generation data and digital technologies. This program has been certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The Tohoku Gakuin University Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Applied Fundamentals Program (Faculty of Engineering) is an even more advanced educational program for cultivating human resources. Students will learn a wide range of fundamental knowledge and practical analytical techniques in information and communication technology, mathematical and data science technology, and AI technology, and will acquire the thinking and analytical abilities necessary for human resources who will contribute to the realization of Society 5.0. Students who meet the following completion requirements while enrolled at this university will be certified by Tohoku Gakuin University as having completed this program.

Completion Requirements

For Faculty of Engineering students, completing all three of the following courses is a requirement for graduation. The general content of each course is as follows. Please refer to the syllabus for each course for details.

Fundamentals of Data Science Applications
This course aims to provide a foundation in data science essential for realizing Society 5.0, and to develop practical application skills using real-world data. It covers both univariate and multivariate statistics as foundational data science topics, incorporating practical exercises using the statistical language R and engaging in discussions.
The foundation of an AI society
While learning about the history of modern society's development, we will also learn about AI society. In particular, we will understand the various roles of data that form the basis of AI society, acquire the knowledge and ethical awareness necessary for us to live in an AI society.
Exploration (development) through the use of data
Learn about the use of generative AI and important considerations. You will learn a wide range of topics, from various operation methods and idea generation techniques to practical application examples.

The relationship between the "Applied Fundamentals Program" and the "Literacy Program"

Our university's literacy program is an educational program made up solely of general education subjects, which could be likened to "reading," "writing," and "arithmetic." The Applied Foundation Program, on the other hand, involves taking related specialized subjects in addition to general education subjects, and aims to acquire the skills necessary to realize the integration of specialized fields and data science by combining learning in data science with learning in one's own specialized field within one's faculty.

Results of self-assessment and evaluation

Future development of this educational program

At Tohoku Gakuin University, we are working to enhance our curriculum by considering how to cultivate the new knowledge and experience necessary for students to engage in social activities in the future. This will be done in collaboration with experts from local businesses, public organizations, and other educational and research institutions, as well as incorporating feedback from students. Details of this initiative will be announced on our website in the future.
