3. Eligibility Requirements
- Persons who fall under any of the following categories
-
- Applicants must be graduates of a university in Japan or abroad, or be expected to graduate in March 2026.
- Those who have graduated from a junior college in Japan or abroad.
- A person who is deemed by the Faculty Council of this university to fall under either of the preceding two categories.
- For persons with foreign nationality *1, in addition to the above, those who fall under any of the following categories

- Those who entered Japan under the "student" status of residence as defined by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
- Those who enter Japan under a residence status other than "Student" and then change their residence status to "Student" after completing the prescribed procedures before enrollment.
- Those residing overseas who plan to obtain a "student" residence status before enrollment.
*1 Excluding those with permanent residency or special permanent residency. The same applies hereinafter.
4. Preliminary consultation and preliminary approval
Applicants must obtain the consent of the faculty member they wish to be supervised by before submitting their application. The following documents must be submitted in this process.
- Tohoku Gakuin University Research Student Application Form (Resume and Personal Information Form) [Prescribed Form] (Excel: 24KB)
- Research Proposal [Any format]
Those with foreign nationality must comply with (1) and (2),
- Certificate of Japanese language proficiency equivalent to or higher than the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
5. Pre-consultation period and document submission location
- Until January 23, 2026 (Friday)
- Please send the documents as email attachments to the Faculty Section of the Academic Affairs Division at Tohoku Gakuin University.

The documents you submit will be given to the teacher who wishes to provide guidance. You will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of your application via the email address above.
6. Application Period
*Only those who submit the necessary documents by the deadline for the preliminary consultation mentioned in item 5 above and receive permission from the teacher they wish to be supervised by are eligible to apply.
February 24th (Tuesday) - February 26th (Thursday), 2026
Reception hours: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
*Documents can also be submitted by mail. In that case, they must arrive by the deadline.
7. Application Documents
Application forms (using the university's prescribed forms) can be downloaded from the link below, or you can contact the inquiry desk listed below.
- Graduation certificate or expected graduation certificate from your last attended school
- Academic transcript from the last school attended
- Letter of consent from your academic advisor at this university [Prescribed form] (PDF: 53KB)
- Photo mount for research student ID card [Attach a photograph (4cm high x 3cm wide)] [Designated form] (PDF: 53KB)
- For those currently employed by a government office or company, a letter of permission from their supervisor is required [any format].
- Health Status Survey Form (for eligible individuals only) [Prescribed Form] (PDF: 89KB)
- *Foreign nationals residing outside of Japan (including foreign nationals residing in Japan who require an entry visa during their research period)

- A letter of recommendation from a supervising teacher at your last attended school [any format is acceptable]
- Guarantee form by the guarantor [prescribed form] (PDF: 59KB)
- The guarantor must be a person who "resides in Japan" and "is employed by a government office or company and earns a living independently."
- If your application documents are written in a language other than Japanese, please attach a Japanese translation with the translator's name indicated. Applicants may also perform the Japanese translation themselves.

9. Notification of permission
