Accreditation Program for Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Education

This educational program is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the "Accreditation System for Mathematical, Data Science, and AI Education Programs (Literacy Level)."

In light of the arrival of Society 5.0, Tohoku Gakuin University has established the above-described educational program to cultivate individuals who will drive next-generation data and digital technology-driven transformation (DX: Digital Transformation) in society. By completing the designated subjects, students will acquire a foundation in mathematics, data science, and AI. Students who meet the following completion requirements while enrolled at Tohoku Gakuin University will be certified as having completed this program, and this will be displayed as a badge on TG-folio and included in their diploma supplement.

*For students enrolling in 2021 and 2022, please refer to this page.

Completion Requirements

Regardless of your faculty or department, the graduation requirement is to complete and earn credits for two subjects from the TG Basic Subject Group (Intellectual Foundations): "Fundamentals of Statistical Thinking (Elective Required)" and the general education subject "Fundamentals of AI Society (Elective Required)."

The content covered in each course is generally as follows. Please refer to the syllabus for each course for details.

*The following syllabus is a reference version from previous years. Please check the latest syllabus for the 2026 academic year.

Fundamentals of Statistical Thinking (PDF: 217KB)
By learning the fundamentals of understanding statistics and data correctly, you will develop the ability to interpret, manipulate, and explain data.
The Foundations of an AI Society (PDF: 235KB)
This course aims to help students understand the characteristics and development history of an "AI society," where artificial intelligence (AI) is used as an integral part of daily life, and to acquire knowledge and ethical considerations related to AI society.

Characteristics of the university-wide general education course "Liberal Arts Subjects" and their relationship to this educational program

Among the general education subjects, TG Basic consists of "Human Foundation" subjects that deepen understanding of Christianity and cultivate rich humanity, "Intellectual Foundation" subjects that hone the intelligence necessary for social life, and "Problem-Setting Inquiry" subjects that acquire problem-setting abilities and other skills prior to specialized education. The knowledge gained here will be an asset for living a better and more intelligent life even after entering society, regardless of your field of specialization. For example, subjects such as "Fundamentals of Statistical Thinking," "Fundamentals of Scientific Thinking," and "Information Literacy" will allow you to acquire the foundation for "Data Science," which involves finding new value by utilizing various data. In this educational program, we would like all students to acquire "Fundamentals of Statistical Thinking" and "Fundamentals of AI Society," which is placed in the general education subjects. There is no prerequisite knowledge required to take these lectures. There is no distinction between humanities and sciences, and no special mathematical knowledge is required, so please register with confidence.
