School Librarian Teacher Training Course
I. About the School Librarian Teacher Training Course
A school librarian teacher is a professional staff member of a school library as defined by the "School Library Law" (promulgated in 1950). Article 5 of the law states that "Schools must have a school librarian teacher to handle the specialized affairs of the school library." The term "school library" here refers to libraries established in elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools.
Regarding the acquisition of the librarian teacher qualification, Article 5, Paragraph 2 of the said Act stipulates that "The librarian teacher referred to in the preceding paragraph shall be appointed from among the chief teacher (excluding chief teachers in charge of guidance and management of nursing or nutrition), supervising teachers, or teachers (hereinafter referred to as "chief teacher, etc." in this paragraph). In this case, the chief teacher, etc. must be a person who has completed the librarian teacher training course." The librarian teacher course at this university was established to serve as a substitute for this training course, but those who wish to acquire the librarian teacher qualification must also obtain a teaching license for either a junior high school or a senior high school upon graduation.
Furthermore, you must apply to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for the librarian teacher qualification. The internal university procedures for this application will take place in the second semester of your fourth year, so please be careful not to miss any communications regarding this.
