Certified Psychologist

Ⅰ Certified Psychologist

The Certified Psychologist Act, which came into effect on September 15, 2017, established Japan's first national qualification system for psychology professionals: the Certified Psychologist. Certified psychologists possess specialized knowledge and skills in psychology, observe the psychological state of people in need of psychological support, analyze the results, and provide advice, guidance, and other psychological assistance to those in need and their families, in collaboration with other relevant professionals. The system is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and is expected to contribute to maintaining and improving the mental health of the public in a wide range of fields, including health care, welfare, education, justice and crime, industry and labor, and others.

II. Subjects required to become a certified psychologist

The eligibility requirements for taking the Certified Clinical Psychologist examination are: (1) those who have completed psychology and other subjects necessary to become a Certified Clinical Psychologist at an undergraduate or Graduate Schools (Article 7, Item 1 of the Certified Clinical Psychologist Act), or (2) those who have completed psychology and other subjects necessary to become a Certified Clinical Psychologist at an undergraduate school and have worked in a psychology-related field at a specific facility for a specific period (Article 7, Item 2 of the Certified Clinical Psychologist Act). Of these, 25 subjects are stipulated to be studied at the undergraduate level. All of these subjects must be completed during enrollment to meet the eligibility requirements. III. Regarding students admitted in 2019 and later

2019年度入学生から、公認心理師の国家試験の受験資格取得要件となる学部の科目を履修することが可能となった。必要な科目は別表1を参照。なお、これらの科目の中には、本学の卒業要件には含まれないものもあることに注意すること。不明な点については、心理学研究室（五橋キャンパスシュネーダー記念館（高層棟）13階・022-354-8177・psychology@ml.tohoku-gakuin.ac.jp）に問い合わせること。

Important points for students entering Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences from the 2023 academic year onward.

Students entering in 2023 or later should carefully review the following points regarding enrollment in "Psychological Seminar" and "Psychological Internship." Due to national regulations concerning the training of certified psychologists, there is a limit to the number of students who can enroll in "Psychological Seminar" and "Psychological Internship" (a maximum of 45 students is planned). If the number of applicants exceeds this limit, a selection process will be conducted (details will be explained in the orientation, so please be sure to attend if you are notified of the orientation). In addition, if you enroll in "Psychological Internship," a separate internship fee will be required (expected to be around 15,000 to 25,000 yen, but this will vary depending on the number of students enrolled each year).

Prerequisites for "Psychological Practice"

To register for the third-year course "Psychological Practice," you must have already earned credits for at least 12 courses, including the following 7 courses, out of the 17 certified psychologist courses offered by the second year.
"Responsibilities of a Certified Clinical Psychologist," "Introduction to Psychology," "Introduction to Clinical Psychology," "Psychological Experiments," "Psychological Assessment," "Psychological Research Methods," "Psychological Statistics"

Prerequisites for "Psychological Practice"

To register for the third-year course "Psychological Practice," you must either simultaneously register for the third-year course "Psychological Seminar" or have already earned credits for this course.
