Ⅰ Certified Psychologist

The Certified Psychologist Act, which came into effect on September 15, 2017, established Japan's first national qualification system for psychology professionals: the Certified Psychologist. Certified psychologists possess specialized knowledge and skills in psychology, observe the psychological state of people in need of psychological support, analyze the results, and provide advice, guidance, and other psychological assistance to those in need and their families, in collaboration with other relevant professionals. The system is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and is expected to contribute to maintaining and improving the mental health of the public in a wide range of fields, including health care, welfare, education, justice and crime, industry and labor, and others.

II. Subjects required to become a certified psychologist

The eligibility requirements for taking the Certified Clinical Psychologist examination are: (1) those who have completed psychology and other subjects necessary to become a Certified Clinical Psychologist at an undergraduate or Graduate Schools (Article 7, Item 1 of the Certified Clinical Psychologist Act), or (2) those who have completed psychology and other subjects necessary to become a Certified Clinical Psychologist at an undergraduate school and have worked in a psychology-related field at a specific facility for a specific period (Article 7, Item 2 of the Certified Clinical Psychologist Act). Of these, 25 subjects are stipulated to be studied at the undergraduate level. All of these subjects must be completed during enrollment to meet the eligibility requirements. III. Transitional measures for students admitted to Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of Human Science up to the 2017 academic year: Subject substitutions related to the application of special provisions for examination eligibility.

Regarding eligibility to take the national examination for certified psychologists, transitional measures are stipulated that apply to those who have completed or are currently completing the subjects specified by ministerial ordinance at a four-year university or Graduate Schools before the enforcement date of the Act, as "subjects necessary to become a certified psychologist as stipulated in Article 2, Paragraph 1, Items 1 to 4 of the Supplementary Provisions of the Certified Psychologist Act."

本学では、法の施行日である2017年9月15日に、教養学部人間科学科に在籍していた学生（2011年度～2014年度入学生、および2015年度～2017年度入学生）について、受験資格の特例（法附則第2条第1項第3号及び第4号、すなわち経過措置のE・Fコース）の省令で定める大学における科目として、以下の別表1のとおり読み替える。不明な点については、心理学研究室（五橋キャンパスシュネーダー記念館（高層棟）13階・022-354-8177・psychology@ml.tohoku-gakuin.ac.jp）に問い合わせること。

Please note that further notifications may be issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the examination administering bodies. Therefore, the following conversion table does not necessarily guarantee eligibility to take the examination. It is the responsibility of each individual to confirm their eligibility to take the Certified Clinical Psychologist Examination.

IV. Special measures for students entering in 2018

Students admitted in the 2018 academic year (including transfer students) are considered to have enrolled on or after the effective date of the Certified Psychologist Act (September 15, 2017) and are therefore required to complete the 25 undergraduate courses necessary to meet the eligibility requirements for the certification exam.However, the curriculum applied to students admitted in the 2018 academic year was not designed to meet the requirements for the Certified Psychologist qualification. Therefore, exclusively for students admitted in the 2018 academic year Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of Human Science who wish to obtain the Certified Psychologist qualification, the following special measures will be implemented.

Students admitted to Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of Human Science in 2018 who wish to obtain the Certified Clinical Psychologist qualification may take the Certified Clinical Psychologist-related courses listed in Appendix 2 from their second year onward, among the courses offered in the curriculum applicable to students admitted in 2019.
Of the subjects taken in step 1, 24 subjects excluding "Developmental Psychology" will not be included in the graduation requirements and will be treated as elective subjects.
Courses taken in category 1 are not included in the maximum number of credits (CAP) you can take.

V. Regarding students admitted from the 2019 academic year onward

2019年度入学生から、公認心理師の国家試験の受験資格取得要件となる学部の科目を履修することが可能となる。必要な科目は別表2を参照。なお、これらの科目の中には、本学の卒業要件には含まれないものもあることに注意すること。不明な点については、心理学研究室（五橋キャンパスシュネーダー記念館（高層棟）13階・022-354-8177・psychology@ml.tohoku-gakuin.ac.jp）に問い合わせること。

Important information for students entering or transferring into Department of Human Science in the 2021-2023 academic years.

Students entering in 2021 or later should carefully review the following points regarding enrollment in "Psychology Seminar" and "Psychology Practice."

Due to national regulations regarding the training of certified psychologists, there is a limit to the number of students who can enroll in "Psychological Exercises" and "Psychological Internships" (maximum 30 students). If the number of applicants exceeds this limit, a selection process will be conducted (details will be explained at the guidance session, so please be sure to attend if you receive an invitation to the guidance session). In addition, if you enroll in "Psychological Internships," a separate internship fee will be required (expected to be around 15,000 to 25,000 yen, but this may vary depending on the number of students enrolled each year).

Prerequisites for "Psychological Practice": To register for the third-year course "Psychological Practice," you must have already earned credits for at least 12 courses, including the following 7 courses, out of the 16 certified psychologist courses offered by the second year.

Prerequisites for "Psychological Practice": To register for the third-year course "Psychological Practice," you must either simultaneously register for the third-year course "Psychological Seminar" or have already earned credits for this course.
