(Applicable to students entering in 2023 or later)

Ⅰ Japanese Psychological Association Certified Psychologist

This qualification, established in June 1990, is awarded to individuals who have resided in Japan for a total of two years or more since the age of 16 and who have completed a basic psychology curriculum at a four-year university as defined by the School Education Act. The qualification is certified by the Japanese Psychological Association.

Students in the Department of Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences of Faculty of Human Sciences (students admitted from the 2023 academic year onward) are required to take the courses specified in the attached table below in order to obtain this qualification.

II. Courses required to obtain the "Certified Psychologist by the Japanese Psychological Association" qualification

1. Course requirements for certification

You must meet the following conditions and acquire a total of 36 or more credits.

1. You must acquire at least 4 credits each in the basic subjects a and c areas, and a total of at least 8 credits in the b and c areas, for a total of at least 12 credits.
2. You must acquire at least 4 credits in at least 3 of the 5 elective subjects d through h, for a total of 16 credits or more.
3. The remaining 8 units should be obtained and used in areas a through i.
4. A graduation thesis can be counted towards "other subjects" (i) for up to 4 credits.
5. Each subject area, excluding "Other Subjects," is classified into "Basic Subjects" and "Subjects." At least two of the required credits for each area must belong to the "Basic Subjects." The remaining credits may belong to the "Subjects" (note that credits for subject-specific courses are counted as half of the university credits).

2. Relationship with courses offered at this university

The attached table lists the subjects and areas required to obtain certification as a certified psychologist, along with the corresponding courses offered at this university.

Appendix 1 applies to students who enroll in the Department Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, Faculty of Human Sciences, from the 2023 academic year onward.

III. Costs and procedures for qualification application

In principle, applicants should apply to the Japanese Psychological Association, but it is advisable to consult with the psychology research laboratory or a psychology faculty member at this university beforehand. Additionally, a review fee of 11,000 yen and an accreditation fee of 33,000 yen are required.

Appendix 1: List of applicable subjects for students entering in 2023 and later.

• Note 1: Courses marked with a circle (○) are offered as teacher training-related courses. Please note that some instructors offer these courses while others do not. If you have any questions, please contact the psychology research lab before enrolling. Also, these courses will not count towards graduation requirements. Please be careful when enrolling.
• Note 2: Subjects marked with an asterisk (*) are, in principle, subjects taught by the following faculty members: Junichi Igawa, Hitomi Usukura, Kenji Kato, Yoshihiro Kanai, Kenzo Sakurai, Wataru Shoji, Toshihiko Hagiwara, Mikio Hirano, and Mitsuteru Fukuno. Please contact the Psychology Research Laboratory if you have any questions.
• Note 3: Even subjects not listed in the table above may fall into one of the categories depending on the instructor and course content. Since additional subjects may be added as the academic year progresses, be sure to check the syllabus every year before enrolling.
