(Purpose)

Article 1

1. This regulation, based on Article 37 of the Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools School Regulations, stipulates the necessary matters concerning research students.

(Eligibility requirements for admission)

Article 2

1. Those who are eligible to enroll as research students are those who fall under any of the following categories:
   1. Persons holding a master's degree or persons recognized by the Graduate School Committee as having equivalent or higher academic ability.
   2. Applicants must have graduated from a university (including foreign universities), have a clear intention to pursue graduate studies at this Graduate Schools, and be approved by the Graduate School Committee.

Article 3

1. Those wishing to enroll as research students must submit the documents specified in the following items to the President of the University, via the Dean of the Graduate School, by the designated deadline.
   1. Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools Research Student Application Form (University-specified form)
   2. Graduation (completion) certificate or expected graduation (completion) certificate from your last attended school (issued within the last 3 months)
   3. Academic transcript from your last attended school (issued within the last 3 months)
   4. Letter of recommendation for research students from full-time faculty members of this university (using the university's prescribed form)
   5. Letter of consent from academic advisor (using the form provided by this university)
   6. Photo submission form for research student ID card (please attach a photo)
   7. Health status survey form (for those who apply)
   8. A letter of permission from your supervisor approving your enrollment as a research student (only for currently employed individuals; any format is acceptable).
   9. Foreign nationals must submit a copy of their resident registration certificate, passport or residence card, and a letter of guarantee from a guarantor residing in Japan (using the form prescribed by the university).

(Selection and permission)

Article 4

1. The selection of research students will be conducted by the Graduate School Committee based on the results of the documents and interviews specified in the preceding article, and after deliberation by Graduate Schools Committee, the President will grant admission.

(Research fee)

Article 5

1. Those admitted as research students must pay a research fee equivalent to one-third of the tuition fee (rounded to the nearest thousand yen) by the designated deadline.

(Enrollment period)

Article 6

1. The enrollment dates for research students will, in principle, be April 1st and October 1st.

(Research period)

Article 7 The research period for research students shall be one year. However, in special circumstances, it may be shortened to six months or more and complete by the end of one year.

2. If any student wishes to extend their research period, this may be approved after deliberation by the relevant graduate school committee.

(Course enrollment)

Article 8

1. When deemed necessary by their supervising professor, research students may be allowed to take some of the coursework.

(Dropped out of school)

Article 9

1. When a research student wishes to withdraw from the university, they must submit a request to the president of the university, through their academic advisor and the dean of the graduate school, stating the reason for their withdrawal.
2. The president may, upon the request of the dean of the graduate school, expel a research student who has violated the university's regulations or who is deemed unlikely to complete their studies due to illness or other reasons.

(Research report)

Article 10

1. When a research student completes their research, they must compile their research findings into a research report and submit it to their supervisor.
2. The supervising professor shall submit their supervisory comments based on the research report mentioned in the preceding paragraph to the Dean of the Graduate School and report those comments to the Graduate School Committee.

(certificate)

Article 11

1. Upon request from a research student, the president may, with the approval of the dean of the graduate school, issue a certificate detailing the research topic and research period. However, no academic credits will be awarded.

(Administrative)

Article 12

1. All matters related to these regulations will be handled by Graduate Schools Division of the Academic Affairs Department.

(Revision/Abolition)

Article 13

1. Any revision or repeal of these regulations shall be carried out by the President after deliberation by the Graduate School Committee and Graduate Schools Committee, and shall be subject to approval by the Board of Directors.

Supplementary provisions

1. These regulations shall come into effect on April 1, 1997.
2. The "Tohoku Gakuin University Graduate Graduate School of Engineering Student Regulations," established on April 1, 1987, and the "Tohoku Gakuin University Graduate Graduate School of Letters Student Regulations," "Tohoku Gakuin University Graduate School of Economics Student Regulations," "Tohoku Gakuin University Graduate Graduate School of Law Student Regulations," and "Tohoku Gakuin University Graduate School of Human Informatics Student Regulations," established on April 1, 1996, are hereby abolished.

Supplementary Provisions (April 1, 2006)

1. These regulations shall come into effect on April 1, 2006, and shall apply to students entering the university in the 2006 academic year.

Supplementary Provisions (Revised No. 5, January 30, 2019)

These regulations shall come into effect on January 30, 2019 (Heisei 31).

Supplementary Provisions (Revised No. 47, March 25, 2020)

These regulations shall come into effect on April 1, 2020.

Supplementary Provisions (Amended No. 94, May 30, 2020)

These internal regulations will come into effect on May 30, 2024, and will apply from April 1, 2024.
