Tohoku Gakuin University Grant Scholarship Regulations

(Purpose)

Article 1
  1. This regulation sets forth the necessary matters concerning the provision of scholarships to students enrolled at Tohoku Gakuin University (hereinafter referred to as "the University") (excluding international students; the same applies hereinafter) who, despite having excellent academic motivation and character, face difficulties in continuing their studies due to financial reasons.

(Qualification criteria)

Article 2
  1. Students who receive scholarships under these regulations (hereinafter referred to as "scholarship recipients") must meet the following requirements.
    1. Undergraduate and Graduate Schools students enrolled at this university who understand the university's educational policies, are highly motivated to study, and have excellent conduct.
    2. Those who require assistance with paying student tuition fees due to financial reasons.

(Benefit amount)

Article 3
  1. The scholarship amount to be awarded to recipients of the grant will be 100,000 yen per semester.

(Benefit period)

Article 4
  1. The period for which scholarships under these regulations will be awarded will be the first or second semester as defined in Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Tohoku Gakuin University Academic Regulations and Article 10, Paragraph 1 of the Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools Academic Regulations. If you wish to receive the scholarship in the next semester, you must reapply.

(Recruitment and number of positions available)

Article 5
  1. Applications for scholarship recipients will be accepted during the first and second semesters.
  2. The number of students to be hired will be 150 for both the first and second semesters. However, if the number of students hired in the first semester is less than 150, the remaining students may be hired in the second semester.

(Benefit restrictions)

Article 6
  1. Those who are receiving or have applied for tuition assistance or tuition fee reductions under the Act on Support for Studying at Universities, etc. (Act No. 8 of 2019), and those who are receiving the Tohoku Gakuin University Reserved Entrance Grant Scholarship or the Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools Working Student Grant Scholarship are not eligible to receive scholarships under these regulations.

(Application documents)

Article 7
  1. Those wishing to receive a scholarship under these regulations must submit the following documents.
    1. Scholarship application form (statement)
    2. Proof of income of the household's primary breadwinner
    3. Other documents that the university may request as needed

(Selection criteria)

Article 8
  1. The selection criteria for scholarship recipients shall be that all of the following requirements are met.
    1. The applicant's character, attitude, and behavior must be appropriate for a student, and they must be deemed to have the potential to become a responsible member of society in the future.
    2. The student must be deemed to require a scholarship due to financial difficulties in their household in order to continue their studies.
    3. Academic ability: All of the following conditions must be met.
      1. A. At the time of application, there must be no overlap in the same academic year for reasons other than leave of absence.
      2. (i) For students in their second year or higher, undergraduate students must have earned at least 8 credits in the previous year, and students in the doctoral program (first stage) and doctoral program (master's program) must have earned at least 8 credits in the previous year. However, for doctoral program (second stage), the number of credits earned is not a requirement regardless of the academic year.

(Acceptance/Rejection and Notification)

Article 9
  1. The selection of recipients of the grant scholarship is decided by the President of Tohoku Gakuin University after deliberation by the Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Management Committee").
  2. When a decision is made regarding the acceptance or rejection of a scholarship recipient, the applicant will be promptly notified in the name of the Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Association President.

(Benefits)

Article 10
  1. Scholarships under these regulations will be awarded once per semester.
  2. Students in the same grade cannot receive the benefit more than twice.

(Notification of change)

Article 11
  1. If a scholarship recipient falls under any of the following categories during the scholarship period, they must promptly submit a notification using the prescribed form.
    1. When applying for a leave of absence or withdrawal from school (excluding death).
    2. When requesting to decline the benefit.

(Loss of eligibility for benefits)

Article 12
  1. If a recipient of a scholarship falls under any of the following categories, they will lose their eligibility to receive the scholarship.
    1. When a student takes a leave of absence or withdraws from school (excluding death).
    2. When it is discovered that someone became a scholarship recipient by making false statements on their application documents.
    3. When the refusal of the benefit is approved.
    4. When a disciplinary action is taken within this university.

(Repayment of scholarships)

Article 13
  1. The Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Association may require a scholarship recipient to repay any scholarship funds already disbursed during the academic year if the recipient loses eligibility for the scholarship pursuant to the preceding article.

(Handling of students who have received disciplinary action)

Article 14
  1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 12, paragraph 4, any student who has completed their disciplinary period and fulfills the conditions in the following paragraphs will be eligible to apply for a scholarship under these regulations, provided that they meet the selection criteria in Article 8.
    1. The student must demonstrate genuine remorse and be deemed suitable as a scholarship recipient by the university president.
    2. You must have completed the procedures related to the scholarship that has been discontinued.
  2. When making an application related to item (i) of the preceding paragraph, the student must contact the Student Affairs Section of the Student Affairs Department and undergo an interview.

(Administrative)

Article 15
  1. All matters related to these regulations will be handled by the Student Affairs Division of the Student Services Department.

(Revision/Abolition)

Article 16
  1. Any amendment or repeal of these regulations shall be initiated by the Steering Committee, approved by the Faculty Council, carried out by the President, and then approved by the Board of Directors.
Supplementary provisions
These regulations shall come into effect on April 1, 2026.
