Tohoku Gakuin University Christian Evangelist Training Scholarship Regulations
(the purpose)
Article 1
- This regulation aims to establish necessary matters concerning the provision of scholarships to students enrolled in the Department of General Humanities, Faculty of Faculty of Letters, Tohoku Gakuin University (hereinafter referred to as "the University") who intend to engage in Christian missionary work after graduation, and to encourage and support students' studies.
(Scholarship eligibility)
Article 2
- Students wishing to receive a scholarship under these regulations must meet the following conditions:
- In accordance with our university's Christian educational philosophy, we select students who excel in both academics and character.
- Those who have a strong determination to dedicate themselves to being Christian evangelists.
- Those who are deemed to have difficulty paying for their education.
(Fund)
Article 3
- The fund for this scholarship shall be established in accordance with the Tohoku Gakuin Educational Support Scholarship Fund Regulations, which shall be set forth separately.
(Amount of scholarship)
Article 4
- The amount of this scholarship will be loaned up to the amount of tuition fees.
(Number of scholarship recipients)
Article 5
- The number of scholarship recipients will be limited to 10 or fewer.
(Scholarship loan period)
Article 6
- The loan period for this scholarship is one year. However, renewal is permitted.
(Application for scholarship)
Article 7
- Applicants for scholarships must submit a scholarship application form and scholarship application form (prescribed) addressed to the university president, co-signed by a joint guarantor (parent/guardian).

Article 8
- To ensure the proper operation of this scholarship program, Tohoku Gakuin University has established the Tohoku Gakuin University Christian Evangelist Training Scholarship Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Management Committee").
- The organization and operation of the steering committee will be determined separately.
(Selection of scholarship recipients)
Article 9
- Scholarship recipients are selected based on recommendations from the head of the Department of Department of General Humanities, followed by deliberation by the steering committee and ultimately decided by the university president.
- When a scholarship recipient is selected, they will be notified in the name of the university president.
(Submission of scholarship loan agreement)
Article 10
- Scholarship recipients must submit a scholarship loan agreement (prescribed form) each time they receive a scholarship, with the co-signer (parent/guardian) and guarantor jointly signing it.
(Interest on scholarships)
Article 11
- Scholarships do not accrue interest.
(Changes in scholarship recipients)
Article 12
- Scholarship recipients must promptly submit a notification using the prescribed form if any of the following conditions apply to them.
- When taking a leave of absence, transferring schools, or dropping out.
- When you receive a suspension or other disciplinary action.
- When there are any changes to the name, address, or other details of the person concerned, the co-signer (parent/guardian), or the guarantor.
(Suspension and repayment of scholarships)
Article 13
- If a scholarship recipient is deemed unsuitable for the scholarship due to withdrawal from the university or other reasons, the president will decide to suspend the loan after deliberation by the management committee. In this case, the entire amount of the scholarship loaned must be repaid within that academic year.
(Reinstatement of scholarships)
Article 14
- If a person whose scholarship loan has been suspended pursuant to the provisions of the preceding article has the grounds for suspension cease to exist and makes a new application for the loan, the President may decide to reinstate the scholarship loan after deliberation by the Management Committee.
(Decline of scholarship)
Article 15
- Scholarship recipients may request to decline their scholarship. In this case, they must repay the full amount of the scholarship disbursed during that academic year.
(Repayment of scholarships)
Article 16
- If a scholarship recipient graduates, withdraws from school, or the loan period expires, they must repay the scholarship within 15 years, starting from the day following the graduation or withdrawal.
- Scholarship repayment shall be made in annual or semi-annual installments.
- Unless there are special circumstances, the amount of the installment payments shall be determined by Article 4, Paragraph 3 of the Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Repayment Regulations.
- Scholarships can be repaid early at any time.
(Deferral of scholarship repayment)
Article 17
- If a former scholarship recipient falls under any of the following categories and submits a scholarship repayment deferral request form (Appendix Form 1), the President may decide to defer the repayment of the scholarship after deliberation by the Steering Committee.
- When return is difficult due to disaster or illness.
- When enrolled in a university, Graduate Schools, or seminary.
- When attending school or conducting research abroad.
- When it is extremely difficult to return the item due to other unavoidable circumstances.
- The period for deferring scholarship repayment shall be as long as the reason described in item 2 of the preceding paragraph continues, and shall be within one year if the reason is otherwise, and may be renewed annually upon request if the reason continues. However, if the reason is described in item 3 or 4, the total deferral period shall be limited to five years.
- When applying for a deferral of scholarship repayment, applicants must submit a scholarship repayment deferral application form clearly stating the reason for the deferral, along with the documents specified in the attached table that prove the reason.
(Exemption from repayment of scholarships)
Article 18
- If a scholarship recipient or former scholarship recipient dies, or becomes unable to work due to a severe mental or physical disability, and is unable to repay all or part of the outstanding amount of the scholarship, the repayment of all or part of the scholarship may be waived.
(Request for exemption from repayment)
Article 19
- When seeking an exemption from repayment of a scholarship pursuant to the provisions of the preceding article, the student or heir must submit a scholarship repayment exemption application form (Form 2) in the form of Appendix 2, jointly signed by the guarantor (parent/guardian), and with the following documents attached.
- In the case of death, a copy of the family register is required.
- If the disability is due to a mental or physical impairment, documents proving the fact and extent of the disability are required.

(Special exemption from scholarship repayment)
Article 20
- If a former scholarship recipient falls under any of the following categories and submits a special scholarship repayment exemption request form (Appendix Form 3) with a certificate of employment attached, the President may, after deliberation by the Steering Committee, decide to grant a special exemption from all or part of the repayment.
- When you have served in the ministry of evangelism for more than three years.
- When I have held a position as a campus ministry teacher at a Christian school for more than three years.
- When you have worked at a social welfare facility for more than three years.
(Application for deferral of repayment related to special exemption from repayment)
Article 21
- If you fall under the provisions of the preceding article and wish to receive a deferral of repayment until you are eligible for a special exemption from repayment of the scholarship, you must submit a scholarship repayment special deferral application form (Appendix Form 4) along with a certificate of employment.
- The special deferment period for scholarship repayment is generally one year, and can be extended until a special exemption from repayment is decided. However, an application must be submitted every year.
(Notification of decision)
Article 22
- The decision regarding the deferral and exemption of scholarship repayment, as well as special exemptions and deferrals related to special exemptions, will be notified to the student or their heir in the name of the university president.
(Administrative)
Article 23
- All matters related to these regulations will be handled by the Student Affairs Division of the Student Services Department.
(Revision/Abolition)
Article 24
- Any revision or repeal of these regulations shall be carried out by the President after deliberation by the Steering Committee and the Faculty Council, and shall be subject to approval by the Board of Directors.
- Supplementary Provisions (Revised No. 3 on January 8, 2020)
- These regulations shall come into effect on April 1, 2025.
