(Purpose)

Article 1

1. These regulations stipulate the necessary matters concerning the Tohoku Gakuin University Emergency Scholarship for Students Affected by Natural Disasters (hereinafter referred to as "this scholarship"), which is intended to provide grants to students affected by natural disasters.

(definition)

Article 2

1. In these regulations, "natural disaster" means earthquakes, tsunamis, heavy rains, storms, volcanic eruptions, and other natural phenomena, or accidents such as fires and explosions that occur as a result of such natural phenomena.

(subject)

Article 3

1. This scholarship is provided to students (including graduate students, but excluding international students; the same applies hereinafter) enrolled at Tohoku Gakuin Graduate Schools (hereinafter referred to as "the University") who have been affected by a natural disaster and meet one of the following criteria, and who, despite having excellent academic motivation and character, are in a situation where it is difficult for them to continue their studies due to financial hardship.
   1. Persons whose primary breadwinner is deceased or missing
   2. Students or those whose homes are completely destroyed, severely damaged, washed away, or suffered similar damage.
   3. Students or those whose homes are partially destroyed, flooded above floor level, or have suffered similar damage.
   4. Students or those whose homes have suffered partial damage, flooding in the crawl space, or similar damage to the house where the household's financial supporter resides.

(Benefit amount)

Article 4

1. This scholarship provides financial assistance for student tuition and fees, and the amount of the grant will be determined according to the categories listed in each of the following items.
   1. Persons falling under item 1 of the preceding article: An amount equivalent to the tuition fee payable for the relevant semester.
   2. Persons falling under item 2 of the preceding article: 100,000 yen
   3. Persons falling under item 3 of the preceding article: 50,000 yen
   4. Persons falling under item 4 of the preceding article: 30,000 yen
2. If two or more of the conditions in the preceding paragraph apply, the amount of the benefit shall be the highest of the amounts specified in each of those items.
3. The term referred to in paragraph 1, item 1 shall be the term in which the natural disaster occurred.

(Number of times benefits are paid)

Article 5

1. Scholarships will be awarded only once per disaster.

(Application period)

Article 6

1. Those wishing to receive this scholarship may, in principle, apply until the end of the fiscal year in which the natural disaster occurred. However, applications for the graduation and completion year cannot be submitted after January 31st.

(Application documents)

Article 7

1. Applicants for this scholarship must submit the following documents, depending on the extent of their disaster-related injuries.
   1. Scholarship application form (university-provided form)
   2. Family register transcript, resident registration certificate, etc. (if applicable under Article 3, Item 1)
   3. Disaster victim certificate (if applicable under Article 3, item 2, item 3, or item 4)
   4. Proof of income of the household's primary breadwinner
   5. Other documents that the university may request as needed

(Selection criteria)

Article 8

1. The selection criteria for this scholarship shall be as specified in each of the following items, according to the categories listed below.
   1. Character: The applicant's attitude and behavior must be appropriate for a student, and they must be deemed to have the potential to become a responsible member of society in the future.
   2. Household Circumstances: The applicant must be someone who has experienced financial difficulties in continuing their education due to being affected by a natural disaster.

(Acceptance/Rejection and Notification)

Article 9

1. The decision on whether or not to grant this scholarship will be made by the President of Tohoku Gakuin University after deliberation by the Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Management Committee").
2. The Chairman of the Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Foundation must promptly notify the applicant of the decision regarding acceptance or rejection as described in the preceding paragraph.

(Payment period)

Article 10

1. This scholarship will be disbursed promptly after the decision to grant it is made.

(Notification of change)

Article 11

1. If a recipient of this scholarship (hereinafter referred to as "the scholarship recipient") is found to fall under any of the following categories during the relevant academic year, they must promptly submit a notification using the prescribed form.
   1. When a student is expelled from school (excluding death).
   2. When you request to decline the benefit.

(Loss of eligibility for benefits)

Article 12

1. If a scholarship recipient is found to fall under any of the following categories, they will lose their eligibility for the scholarship.
   1. When a student is expelled from school (excluding death).
   2. When it is discovered that the applicant became a scholarship recipient by making false statements in their application documents.
   3. When the refusal of the benefit is approved.

(Repayment of scholarships)

Article 13

1. The Tohoku Gakuin University Scholarship Association may require a scholarship recipient to repay any scholarship funds already disbursed during the academic year if the recipient loses eligibility for the scholarship pursuant to the preceding article.

(Administrative)

Article 14

1. All matters related to these regulations will be handled by the Student Affairs Division of the Student Services Department.

(Revision/Abolition)

Article 15

1. Any revision or repeal of these regulations shall be carried out by the President after deliberation by the Steering Committee and the Faculty Council, and shall be subject to approval by the Board of Directors.

Supplementary Provisions (Revised No. 32, February 19, 2020)

These regulations shall come into effect on April 1, 2025.
