Basic seminars are required courses for first-year university students to acquire the fundamental academic skills necessary for their four years of study.
There are two unique aspects to the introductory seminar in Department of Policy Design.

Learn the fundamentals of "design thinking" through group work.
"Design thinking" is a method for generating new solutions to problems by starting with empathy for those affected by the problem, and then repeatedly going through the process of defining the problem, brainstorming ideas, materializing those ideas, and implementing and verifying them.
For this day, we have invited experts from outside the university to serve as instructors, and we will learn the fundamentals of design thinking through group work.

A joint reporting session held by multiple classes.
Normally, the basic seminar is conducted in small groups of around 10 people, but on this day, multiple basic seminar classes will be held together.
Through collaborative work leading up to this joint presentation, students will not only learn research methods and presentation techniques, but also cultivate communication and facilitation skills.
The assigned theme can be anything as long as it aligns with the concept of "regional development x policy design," so it will put students' creativity to the test.
