About Department of Policy Design
I believe that future policies should be "designed." Designing policies means that each of us takes the lead in creating policies to solve social problems together with various people. Furthermore, empathy for others is essential for designing policies. In this way, policy design can be described as a very humane form of policymaking.
As social issues become more diverse and sophisticated, modern society is seeking solutions through the use of AI (artificial intelligence). While I believe such solutions are highly effective, I want to believe in the rich sensibilities and abilities that we humans possess, and furthermore, the power of "love" for others. This is the sentiment behind the establishment of Japan's first Department of Policy Design.
Introduction to specialized fields
My area of expertise is finance. Financial transactions involve lending and borrowing money between individuals, as well as lending and borrowing money in the present and future. In both cases, there is a possibility that the lent money may not be repaid. This possibility creates a problem where people who want to use financial transactions to improve their situation are unable to do so. For over 20 years, I have been researching mechanisms to solve this problem.
In recent years, the number of people in Japan who cannot access sufficient financial transactions for various reasons has been increasing. A situation where such people do not exist is called "financial inclusion," and I would like to explore with you how we can achieve financial inclusion.
Introduction to Exercises I and II
Theme: Working with government, citizens, and businesses to improve the financial literacy of local residents
- We will understand the various financial challenges faced by local residents and consider measures to improve their financial literacy through financial and economic education.
- We will work with government agencies, financial institutions, and other organizations to create educational materials for financial and economic education.
- We participate in nationwide debate competitions (Securities Seminar Competitions) and hone our skills by competing with peers from all over the country.
Message to high school students
There's a term called the "butterfly effect." It refers to the idea that a butterfly's flapping wings can cause a storm far away, meaning that "a very small movement can ultimately lead to an unexpectedly large movement." From the perspective of society as a whole, our (butterfly's) flapping wings are insignificant. But it is in those flapping wings that the power to create ("transform") a better society for all of you resides.
