About Department of Policy Design
Living in modern society, we face a variety of problems. Solving these problems solely through the efforts of a limited number of people, such as politicians and civil servants, is not easy. To create a better society, collaboration is necessary not only among politicians and administrators, but also among all members of society, including private companies, NPOs, and citizens. In Department of Policy Design, by studying both theory and practice from the three domains of public, common, and private, students can cultivate the multifaceted perspectives essential for solving various social problems.
Introduction to specialized fields
Amidst growing concerns about divisions and conflicts arising from cultural differences, multicultural coexistence, aiming for the coexistence of people with diverse cultural backgrounds, has become one of the major challenges in modern society. Focusing on these challenges, I research, from a political philosophy perspective, whether it is justifiable for states to protect minority cultural groups such as indigenous peoples, immigrants, and refugees, and how policies can be implemented to treat diverse cultures equally.
Introduction to Exercises I and II
Theme: What constitutes a "correct" policy?
In this seminar, we will consider the ideal form of society we should strive for, based on philosophical examinations of concepts such as "freedom," "equality," and "righteousness," and discuss solutions to the various challenges facing modern society.
Message to high school students
When you hear the phrase "creating a better society," some people might feel it's a difficult task. Certainly, changing society is not easy. However, each of us recognizing problems and seeking solutions is a step towards a better society. I look forward to learning with you in this department, where you will gain specialized knowledge and work towards creating a better society.
