About Department of Policy Design
To improve society in the future, it's crucial that each and every one of us thinks and acts, rather than relying solely on politicians and a select few. In Department of Policy Design, we aim to equip you with five essential skills (empathy, critical thinking, imagination, communication, and collaboration) so that you can become a change-maker—a policy entrepreneur.
Introduction to specialized fields
My interest in studying social security began when my grandparents' health deteriorated. I became curious about the financial security of the elderly and started researching social security.
Social security is a policy aimed at guaranteeing us a healthy and secure life. It is not only an important policy for creating a better society, but also a policy that we are directly involved in. Going to daycare or a children's center, taking your health insurance card when you go to the hospital, having to join the national pension when you turn 20... I think that knowing about social security is the first step towards a "healthy and secure life."
Introduction to Exercises I and II
Theme: To learn about Japan's social security system and consider its challenges and solutions.
- We will consider the current state of Japan's social security system, including pensions, healthcare, welfare, and social assistance, what challenges it faces, and how to resolve them.
- Through wheelchair experiences, elderly simulations, and pregnant simulations, participants will deepen their understanding of people with different health conditions and other factors than their own, and consider how to support them.
- We are also planning pension dialogue meetings with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Tohoku Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare, as well as joint seminars with other universities.
