About Department of Policy Design

Department of Policy Design at Tohoku Gakuin University aims to cultivate generalists capable of formulating various policies, including those related to welfare. Therefore, Department of Policy Design offers a wide range of courses across various academic disciplines, fostering a social science perspective on issues. From Sendai, I hope to work with students to consider the future of this country.

Introduction to specialized fields

The fundamental problem in the life issues that social welfare addresses is poverty. Our research has focused on understanding and resolving poverty, using single-mother households as an example. Understanding the essence of poverty allows us to understand the essence of society itself. This is because poverty is not a personal problem, but a social one. Seeing the true nature of things we've previously taken for granted is an intellectual pleasure, and I believe that this is the appeal of higher education.

Introduction to Exercises I and II
Theme: Child poverty and child welfare (Considering social welfare, focusing on the field of child and family welfare)

When we talk about child poverty, it's not just children who are living in poverty.

This seminar will use the issue of child poverty as a starting point to cultivate a perspective on worker poverty.

In addition, each participant will be assigned a field, set a theme, and conduct research and analysis.
