About Department of Policy Design
Regional decline, the progression of a low birthrate and aging population, widening inequality and poverty, budget deficits...the regions in which we live face many challenges.
On the other hand, there is a severe shortage of people who can tackle these policy challenges with creativity. Policy Design was established as one of the few departments in Tohoku that cultivates such rare talent. We would like to fully support your endeavors.
Introduction to specialized fields
Are you aware that there are many policies that are necessary but not well-received by the public? For example, even amidst widening inequality, poverty reduction measures tend to struggle to gain sufficient support in many countries. This shows that ethically "correct" policies are not always accepted by the public.
So, what kind of policies are politically acceptable and effective in correcting inequality? To consider these issues, I am researching the problem of "taxpayer consent" regarding taxes and social security.
Introduction to Exercises I and II
Theme: Revitalizing "community spaces" through participatory urban development
- Using shopping streets, which are both a microcosm and the face of the local community, as our field of study, we will address the issue of community space revitalization.
- We research and implement community revitalization initiatives while fostering relationships with local stakeholders (shops, neighborhood associations, politicians, government, etc.).
