Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Loan Scholarship
Tuition fee deferred payment system
System Overview
This system involves the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) providing scholarships equivalent to tuition fees to students as interest-free loans to universities, allowing students to avoid paying tuition while enrolled and repay the funds after graduation according to their income.
Those who wish to utilize this system can apply before enrollment to have their tuition payment deferred at the time of enrollment.
1. Target
Those who will be entering Graduate Schools (Master's program or Doctoral program, first stage) in or after the 2026 academic year.
2. Types of scholarships
This system allows you to receive both of the following benefits simultaneously.
| kinds | interest | Loan method |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition support grant | interest-free | The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) transfers an amount equivalent to the tuition fee to the university. |
| Living expenses scholarship | interest-free | Generally, the Japan Student Services Organization transfers funds to students once a month. |
- *1 If you utilize this system, you will not be eligible to receive a Type 1 scholarship loan.
- *2 It is possible to choose not to receive the living expenses scholarship. You cannot apply for the living expenses scholarship alone.

Regarding the amount of "tuition support funds"
- Of the student fees, only "tuition fees" are covered by this system.
* Fees other than tuition, such as entrance fees, facility and equipment fees, laboratory and practical training fees, educational enrichment fees, and miscellaneous membership fees, are not covered.
- The "tuition support grant" = loan amount = amount to be repaid = will be the annual tuition fee of the graduate school you enrolled in plus the guarantee fee for institutional guarantee.
4. Precautions
- Even for students enrolled in extended programs, loans are only available for the duration of their standard studies.
- Similar to the Type 1 scholarship, it is possible to utilize a system that waives the repayment of loan scholarships based on particularly outstanding academic achievements.
- Payment of a guarantee fee (joining an institutional guarantee) is mandatory.
5. Conditions for continuation
Once a year, if you are deemed eligible as a scholarship recipient based on the results of (1) and (2) below, you may continue receiving the loan for the following year.
- Submission of Scholarship Continuation Request
Time of year: Around December to January every year
/ Submission instructions: Notices will be posted on MYTG for eligible participants. - Eligibility Certification
