Before entering university, I lived in Taiwan. Based on that experience, I majored in a seminar studying Asian economics and researched the politics and economy of Taiwan, where I had lived. The more I researched Taiwan, which I thought I knew, the more new discoveries and questions arose, further stimulating my interest and curiosity. I then decided to pursue Graduate Schools studies to conduct more specialized research at a higher level. In Graduate Schools, I researched the process of democratization and the development of social policies in Taiwan, and was able to clarify that democratization, progress, and the expansion of social policies are deeply interconnected. Thanks to the appropriate guidance from professors and the well-equipped facilities and research environment, I was able to complete my thesis.

In addition to classroom research, the seminar also included study tours to Asian countries, which I actively participated in. During Graduate Schools, I visited Taiwan for two consecutive years, and I was able to coordinate the schedule and make arrangements, introducing Taiwan to my juniors in the seminar. By going from being taught to teaching, I discovered the difficulties of teaching.

Japan, with its limited resources and food production capacity, constantly faces challenges in coexisting with the rest of the world, particularly in Asia. By visiting other countries, experiencing different cultures, and directly feeling the various differences between Japan and other countries, one can develop acceptance and understanding of different cultures and diverse values, fostering empathy and flexible thinking. Furthermore, it becomes possible to view the international situation surrounding Japan more objectively.

A few years ago, a certain airline had a commercial that said, "Go for it while you're young!" The four years of university are a moratorium period, a time to try many things. In Department of Co-existing Society Studies, you can challenge yourself in various fields, including overseas, so why not take advantage of this opportunity and actively pursue it? If you do, by the time you graduate, you will have grown many times more than you are now.

Currently, I teach politics and economics to international students and provide guidance on further education at a vocational school. I believe I was able to secure this job because of the experience I gained during my undergraduate and Graduate Schools, which involved dealing with different cultures and diverse values.

Even if you don't have a goal right now, if you keep trying things that interest you, you're sure to find one. I encourage you to try new things while you're in university.
