Department of Co-existing Society Studies aims to cultivate individuals who understand (knowledge) and develop empathy (sensitivity) to gently connect people through "learning about coexistence."

The Great East Japan Earthquake that struck on March 11, and the subsequent efforts toward recovery and reconstruction, have made everyone realize anew the importance of supporting and standing by one another to create a safe and secure society for everyone.

Department of Co-existing Society Studies aims to cultivate the following abilities in its students. Individuals with these abilities are expected to be able to recognize and respect differences among diverse people, think and act altruistically in order to live together, and contribute to society in various fields.

• The ability to understand modern society from economic, policy, and social perspectives.
• The ability to live as an independent individual and the ability to think for oneself.
• The ability to be considerate of the nature of relationships between people
• The ability to think about a sustainable economy and society in the context of population decline and an aging society.
• The ability to make suggestions and take action toward building a better inclusive society.
