Actually, I was planning to go to a different university.
However, my high school teacher told me to get a brochure for Tohoku Gakuin University, so I did. That's when I first saw the brochure for Department of Co-existing Society Studies, and I thought, "This is it!" I thought, "If I can study social welfare at Tohoku Gakuin University, I want to go there!"
Because it was such a sudden change of plans, people around me were worried.
So I called the admissions office and asked them to tell me more about Department of Co-existing Society Studies. I met with a professor from the department and they explained it to me. I still remember what the professor said: "Qualifications are good, but don't you think it's also good to learn broadly without being bound by qualifications?"
That's right, I don't want to get a qualification in caregiving or anything like that.
Also, I was interested in how people with and without disabilities could get along well with each other. That's welfare, or rather, it's about coexistence. I wanted to think about how to create a society where we can all live together in this department.
Looking back now, I'm so glad I chose "coexistence"! Here's why...

The introductory course on symbiotic societies is fascinating!
Taking this class has broadened my understanding of "living together." Because it deals with relatable topics, I can listen to it as if it were about me, and I find myself agreeing with the content every time. Plus, the teacher is incredibly unique! They use music and talk about their own family. It's truly a subject I'm glad I chose, and I highly recommend it!

Everyone's good friends!
Because there are so few of us, everyone in the department is really close. Our circle of friends expands through mutual friends. I wonder why we're all so close?! Even if there's a class that I find a little difficult, seeing my friends studying makes me want to work hard too.
