For all students enrolled in faculties and departments that will cease accepting new students, we will ensure that they maintain their affiliation with their chosen department and the educational environment there until graduation. We, the faculty and staff, will also fulfill our responsibility to provide support for their student life, career paths, and job placement.

Autumn Concert to Commemorate the Establishment Department of Co-existing Society Studies

On October 17th, an autumn concert was held to celebrate the establishment of the new Department of Co-existing Society Studies. The Albatross string quartet, drummer Yosuke Suzuki, and lovely ballerinas from the Tip Tap ballet company made appearances, making it a concert befitting the celebration. We received many comments from the students of the department, such as "It was great," and "It was a wonderful concert." Here are some of them.

This concert was held to commemorate the establishment of the new Department of Co-existing Society Studies, and I felt it was truly befitting of the word "coexistence." This is because, just as it is difficult to express music with only one instrument, it is impossible to achieve "coexistence" alone. The violin and cello, and the cello and the violin, complement each other's individuality, which is what makes a performance so moving. In the same way, I believe that we can create a style of "coexistence" in society by complementing each other's individuality. I felt that Albatross's performance taught me about the kind of "coexistence" we should strive for. (S-kun)

I was reminded once again how truly enjoyable it is for people to connect through music, and for performers and listeners to become one and enjoy music together. (O-san)

I had known a little about Mr. Suzuki before, but I was impressed by how he played with such precision using that small drum set, while still maintaining the atmosphere of the string quartet. (S)

What made the biggest impression on me was the "patica." It's a very simple instrument with ball-like objects attached to both ends of a string, which you then clash together. But when Ms. Suzuki started playing, she produced a variety of rhythms, and I was captivated by her precise rhythm and performance. (S)

The concert, which included a collaboration with tiny ballerinas from a ballet school, was a heartwarming experience to watch. The innocent children's performances had a mystical quality, like the sounds produced by musical instruments. It made me wonder if I was ever that young myself. (K-kun)

Seeing those cute girls dancing with all their might brought a smile to my face. (W)

I was so glad to be able to see such a wonderful concert to commemorate the establishment of the new department. I feel like my sensibilities have broadened a little more, and experiencing this commemorative concert has made me want to work hard in my studies as a student of Department of Co-existing Society Studies. I heard that "albatross" refers to the bird known as the albatross, and that it is said to "bring good fortune on long journeys." This made me hope that Department of Co-existing Society Studies which will continue from now on, will become an even more fulfilling department. (E)
