Ia: "Another Way of Working" in Nonprofit Organizations

I received an explanation at the Sendai City Citizen Activity Support Center.

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, the number of citizen groups providing support to disaster victims and assisting with the recovery and reconstruction of affected areas has been steadily increasing. Simultaneously, the number of young people working as full-time employees in these non-profit organizations is also on the rise. The emergence of this "alternative way of working," distinct from the public sector (government) and private sector (corporations), indicates that citizen sector organizations such as NPOs and general incorporated associations are beginning to function as a source of employment.

In this fieldwork A, we will conduct interviews with young people working at NPOs in Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City, analyzing their experiences in civic activities from their student days to the present, as well as the changes in their professional attitudes. We will explore the conditions necessary to make "another way of working" in non-profit organizations sustainable.
