Faculty of Economics Department of Co-existing Society Studies

Recruitment stopped in April 2023

For all students enrolled in faculties and departments that will cease accepting new students, we will ensure that they maintain their affiliation with their chosen department and the educational environment there until graduation. We, the faculty and staff, will also fulfill our responsibility to provide support for their student life, career paths, and job placement.

Impressions of hospital volunteers

We assist with tasks such as guiding patients at the reception desk and helping out in the hospital library.

Student impressions

  • The hospital had various medical departments and was used by many different people. Through my internship, I was able to learn about various aspects of the hospital that I wouldn't have known from a patient's perspective. (General reception, ward work)
  • By working alongside the staff, I was able to internalize basic rules of professional conduct such as greetings, language use, and personal grooming. I also learned about proper attitudes and behaviors towards patients and other staff members. (General reception, ward work)
  • I witnessed firsthand how a volunteer who has been working for nearly 10 years is appreciated by the staff in each ward, and I believe that this internship allowed me to learn not only about the work itself, but also about the spirit of volunteerism. I now aspire to become someone who can contribute to society and the local community in the future. (Activities at the general reception and pediatric ward)
  • Working at the general information desk required quick thinking and flexible responses, as I was constantly bombarded with unexpected questions. Therefore, I learned that putting myself in the user's shoes, considering their perspective, and acting accordingly was paramount. This is something I believe will be extremely important in my professional life, so it was a truly valuable learning experience. It was a high-pressure job, but also incredibly rewarding. (General Information Desk)
  • At the general information desk, we provided guidance on the re-registration machines and automatic payment machines. Although the machines are simple to operate, we found that some people, such as the elderly, found them very difficult to use due to reasons such as the large number of medical departments and physical disabilities. We also realized that even when the questions asked were similar, different approaches were required for each individual due to visual impairments or hearing difficulties. (General Information Desk)
  • I started out with a mix of nervousness and anxiety, but also a desire to bring a little cheer to the children who came to the hospital! Looking back, I realize that I was the one who received energy from the children each and every time. I also had the opportunity to talk with the mothers. Some were traveling from far away, and seeing how hard the children and their families were trying to live their lives really touched me. What I was able to do was very small, but I would be happy if I was able to be of even a little help. (Outpatient Playroom)
  • Through this internship, I had the opportunity to speak with many volunteers at the hospital library. Among them, I learned the term "bibliotherapy." Indeed, I believe that reading has many benefits, such as allowing us to relive various experiences, broadening our knowledge and understanding of our own world. I myself was surprised to find books in the library that I used to read frequently as a child. This made me realize that reading has many benefits and leaves a lasting impression. Furthermore, I was reminded of the wonderful initiative of hospitals to have libraries on-site, and I hope that such initiatives will spread further. (Hospital Library)
