Faculty of Economics Department of Co-existing Society Studies

Recruitment stopped in April 2023

For all students enrolled in faculties and departments that will cease accepting new students, we will ensure that they maintain their affiliation with their chosen department and the educational environment there until graduation. We, the faculty and staff, will also fulfill our responsibility to provide support for their student life, career paths, and job placement.

Elderly care facilities

Through hands-on experiences with disabilities, students will learn about accessibility. In addition, through classroom lectures in a seminar format, visits and practical training at special nursing homes and elderly care facilities will provide a multi-layered and comprehensive learning experience about the current state of welfare and volunteer work.

In fiscal year 2012, the following facilities served as training sites: Short-stay Seiryoen, Futabagaoka Day Service Center, Kuromatsu "Hidamari no Ie" Day Service, and Special Nursing Home Parcia (Galilee, Nazareth, Emmaus).

In Fieldwork A, separate from on-campus classes, students participated in volunteer work experience at various facilities in groups of 2-3 people, for 2-3 hours each week for a continuous period of 5 weeks.

Finally, let's look at some of the feedback from students who took Fieldwork Ib.

"At first, I felt anxious and thought it would be difficult. To be honest, fieldwork is tiring and challenging. But precisely because of that, when I completed it, I developed a sense of proactiveness and accomplishment. I was able to learn about elderly care facilities and the elderly, including their actual experiences. I learned things necessary for social life through observing the people working there and the workplace. There is so much to learn, so if you enroll in Department of Co-existing Society Studies, I would definitely recommend that you take part in fieldwork that includes volunteer experience."
